ENEMINYAKA ewu-26 wacelwa owayenguNgqongqoshe wezokuThutha ongasekho uMnu uDullar Omar ukuthi abe wusihlalo wokuqala omnyama webhodi yenkampani ebhekelela indawo okuhamba kuyo amabhanoyi emoyeni, i-Air Traffic Navigation Services (i-ATNS).

Waqale wawuchitha lo msebenzi ngoba ebona ukuthi awumfanele ngoba wayengakaze ahlale ebhodini phambilini futhi ebona iminyaka yakhe nokuthi wayezibuza ukuthi angaba wusihlalo webhodi elinabantu abanamava ngaphezu kwakhe kanjani.

Namhlanje leso sipiliyoni nesifundo asithola ngaleso sikhathi singezinye zezinto ezimsizile uMnu uMike Mabasa, manje oyisikhulu esiphezulu seNational Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (iNaamsa), usoseshini wezinkampani eziwu-22 ezikhiqiza izimoto ezweni.

Ehola ibhodi le-ATNS, uMabasa wayesebenza nabantu abafana noNksz uMonhla Hlahla, uMnu uBheki Shongwe, uNksz uJennifer Gray, bonke ayebabuka angazi ukuthi kodwa uzothini kubona.

“Ngaqala ngambuza ungqongqoshe ukuthi kodwa wazama ukungenzela phansi nje; ngingawuthatha kanjani umsebenzi omkhulu kangaka kunami? Kodwa wathi leli thuba anginika lona elokuthi ngifunde kwabanye babantu asebemnkantshubomvu ekuphathweni kwezinkampani eNingizimu Afrika futhi ngempela wenza njalo ngoba kukhona isikhathi lapho ibhodi le-ATNS lalinabantu abayizikhulu eziphezulu ezintathu,” kukhumbula yena.

“Ngingasho nje ukuthi lelo thuba (lokuba wusihlalo we-ATNS) yilona engithi uma ngibheka emuva, ngibuka konke esengikwenzile, ngiziqhenye. Ngafunda isifundo esikhulu esingisebenzele impilo yami yonke sokuthi ungakusabi ukusebenza nabantu abazi ngaphezu kwakho ngoba yilokho okuzokukhulisa masinyane ngoba bazokusiza ngolwazi nangesipiliyoni ongenaso nokuzokusiza emsebenzini wakho,” kusho uMabasa.

UMabasa, oneminyaka ewu-46, ongusomnotho wezokuthutha nentatheli ngokokuqeqeshwa, usesebenze ezimbonini ezehlukene njengoba ngale kwezokuthutha useke waba sezimayini, ezempilo, imboni yotshwala nezinye.

Wazalelwa eMamelodi, ePitoli, futhi wakhulela khona.  Emva kokuphothula izifundo zobuntatheli usebenzele iSouth African Council of Churches ngesikhathi unobhala wayo kusewuDkt uBrigalia Bam.

Wathi xinti ephephandabeni kodwa washeshe wahamba ngoba engaluthandi uhlobo lwezindaba okwakuthiwa akazicoshele. 

Waqala wayosebenza emNyangweni wezokuPhepha nokuVikela eGauteng ngaphambi kokuthi ayosebenza kowezokuThutha kuzwelonke.

Yingaleso sikhathi esebenzela umNyango wezokuThutha lapho athola khona ithuba lokuphatha ibhodi ye-ATNS.  Nokho kwathi uma kushona u-Omar, wabona ukuthi sekuyisikhathi sokuthi ayobheka inselelo entsha njengoba wayengakaze asebenze embonini ezimele.

“Ngabona ukuthi kunezinto eziningi engingazazi ngendlela imboni ezimele esebenza ngayo ngoba ngangingeke ngizazi ngisasebenzela uhulumeni,” kusho uMabasa.

Waqala wasebenzela iJapan Tobacco International, nalapho ethi bathi ukungqubuzana nowayenguNgqongqoshe wezeMpilo uDkt uNkosazana Dlamini Zuma ngemithetho ayeyishaya ngale mboni.

Wadlulela ezimayini esebenzela iRio Tinto ePhalaborwa, kwalandela ukuthi abuyele ekhaya eGauteng lapho kosebenzela khona i-Adcock Ingram, inkampani ekhiqiza imithi neminye imikhiqizo yezempilo.

Emva kwalokho wadlulela embonini yotshwala wasebenzela iBrandhouse eWestern Cape, inkampani eyayibunjwe yiDiageo noHeineken eNingizimu Afrika.

“Kuthe uma ihlukaniswa, mina ngakhetha ukuya eHeineken kodwa lapho ngihlale unyaka ngase ngisungula ibhizinisi lami lokusabalalisa utshwala futhi bavuma ukungisiza ngiliqale. Kodwa ngasheshe ngabona ukuthi ibhizinisi lotshwala lilukhuni kunalokhu ongakucabanga uma usuke usebenzela inkampani ethize; ngabona ukuthi ayingangami la, ngaphindela emsebenzini,” kusho uMabasa. 

Waphindela ezimayini wayosebenza eKumba, lapho aba yisikhulu esiphezulu senye yezinhlangano ezazibhekelele ukuthuthukiswa komphakathi, ephethe iKgoedesang Foundation eThabazimbi.

Echaza ngokugcogcoma ezimbonini ezihlukene, uMabasa uthe bekwenziwa wukuthi ubesemncane, efuna ukufunda izinto ezintsha futhi kokunye ubesuke asheshe abe nesithukuthezi.

“Into emnandi ngokuba wumuntu wezokuxhumana wukuthi awuvaleleki endaweni eyodwa, ungenza izinto ezihlukene futhi ungasebenza noma yikuphi. Ngiyayithanda nale nto yokuthi ngikwazi ukuqonda izimboni ezihlukene, ngingabi ungoti wento eyodwa,” kusho uMabasa. 

Le mboni akuyona manje yezimoto inezinhlelo zokunyusa umthamo wezimoto ewukhiqizayo usuka ku-600 000 ngonyaka, ufinyelele ku-1.4 million ngonyaka; nokuyisibalo abafisa ukufinyelela kusona ngo-2035 ngokwe-SA Automotive Master Plan. 

Imboni ekhiqiza izimoto inezinhlelo ezinkulu zokusimama

UMabasa ukholwa wukuthi lokhu yinto abangayizuza ngaphambi konyaka abazibekele wona. 

“Kusenamazwe amaningi e-Afrika lapho kusagcwele khona izimoto ezingamasekeni kanti uma ubheka abantu abaningi e-Afrika yintsha eneminyaka ephakathi kuka-24 no-35, nokungabantu laba abasenephupho lokuba nemoto entsha; nokusathathwa njengento enkulu ukuthenga imoto entsha.

“Ngeke ngingene enkulumompikiswaneni ethi ukuthenga imoto kuwumqondo ophusile noma cha yini. Uma ubheka futhi ngisho ukusebenzisa izimoto ezifana no-Uber akuyona into enkulu kangako e-Afrika, njengoba ngisho nayo le nkampani isike yasho ukuthi iphoxekile ngoba akwenzeki ngendlela ebilindele ngayo,” kusho uMabasa. 

Njengoba kukhalwa ngokugcwala kwezimoto emgwaqweni, bathini beyiNaamsa ngaloko ngoba kukhona nabathi kumele zincishiswe izimoto ukuze kuzokwehla nokungcola komoya?

“Ziningi izindlela zokulawula umthamo wezimoto emgwaqweni. Kudinga ukuthi kusetshenziswe ingqalasizinda ekhona ngendlela ephusile. Uma ubheka nje ingqalasizinda yama-etoll, akumele siyibekele ukuthi sizoqoqa imali ngayo, ingakwazi ukulekelela ukulawula umthamo wezimoto,” kusho yena.

Imboni yokukhiqizwa kwezimoto ingenise uR500 billion ngo-2019 kanti ifaka u-6.4% emnothweni wezwe. Nakuba ukuhlasela kweCOVID-19 kuyishaye kakhulu imboni yezimoto kodwa uMabasa uthi bakholwa wukuthi yinselelelo edlulayo lena, kungekudala uma sekutholakale ikhambi, izovuka ngamandla le mboni.

UMabasa uneminyaka ewu-20 eganiwe kanti banezingane ezintathu nomkakhe.
